Hi all!

I have asked this before, I know, but this is for a
different PC, and a different drive. The PC is a very
old Windows 98SE machine, made by Gateway2000, before
they started calling it Gateway. It has only a 2G HDD,
and 48MB of RAM, with a 133Mhz processor, which I
believe is the original Pentium. It has only 2 drives,
the 3 1/2 Floppy, and the DVD-Rom. I have not had the
case open, so I don't know what size the Power Supply
is, nor if it has an extra memory slot, etc. The case
is one that has about a thousand screws holding it, so
I am hoping this can be solved without dismembering
the system. It does not have any USB ports, but does
have a NIC installed. I don't know how much of this
info is needed, but I wanted to give as much as
possible...

My problem is this: Either of the 2 Decoder software I
have installed, will not work. I have no problem
installing either one; this also tells me that the
drive is working, because it plays the CDs. After I
install, when I open the program (which is WinDVD or
PowerDVD), it attempts to open, I get the error that
the program has encountered a problem and needs to
close. I did not have both programs installed at the
same time. When I uninstalled, I removed the entire
folder from C:\Program Files.

I just 2 days ago formatted and reinstalled the OS.
The PC was given to me by my church, when they retired
it, and got a new PC. I do not believe the drive was
ever used as a DVD drive, but only as a CD drive. I
wonder if this is related to low memory; all other 98
machines that I have ever worked with have had at
least 64Mb of RAM. I am not sure if this is hardware
or software, or a combination, so I am submitting this
to both lists.

Anyway, thanks in advance!
Amy Ledford
