Saraba-Saraba was a prosperous village in the Jollof Empire located in jollof next to Saloum and Baddibu around 1100-1600 . The town of Naini and and Saraba were powerful economic activity centres and a salt trading post. This power was supported by the Trans-Sahara slave trade This made Jollof a mighty big and influential empire. All other regions in The Senegambia region paid taxes to the powerful king of Jollof, the The Burr Jollof, King of Jollof . During the height of the Jollof Empire saw the salt trade and human trafficing made the villagers of Saraba and Niani to prosper tremendously. When Jollof fell most wollofs migrated to the coatal towns of Walo, Kayor and Baol. Sine joined Saloum for partnership in the tail of the salt trade.Kayor was later developed as the capital of Senegal with it's first capital in Saint Louis and later the capital was moved to Dakar.
The costal regions of Walo, Kayor Baol and Sine were favoured by the European traders who came by boat and ocean vessles to start a new trade with new items of goods including the Atlantic slave trade that the Arab traders could not deliver or did not have, Guns, Achocol, fabrics and decorative items This brought about the fall of Jollof and the refusal of all other smaller to stop paying taxes to Burr jollof

Saraba was a market-town in the Jollof empire, trading in salt, Indigo, Hide and Skin, and had numerous Arabic scholars and institutions. This made the famous town legendary and culturally monumental.
