Fellow Gambians,
Allow me to take this chance on this Niumi identity issue by requesting the historians among us and all those conversant with (Sene) Gambian history to help me understand certain hitrorical facts.
I tumbled upon some tips that one of the rulers of Niumi (I think is Bolong Sonko) had in the mid 1800s engaged around 700 SARAHULES to protect his Kingdom.
1. Can any one throw light on this?
2. What are the motives behind such move?
3. Any imagery and living source for reference (villages, people, etc)?
4. How did things ended as the British finally colonised Gambia?
5. How is the relation between the people of Niumi and the Sarahules today (any inter-marriages, cross-cultural exchanges, animosities, harmony, etc?
Thank you for your support
Alhagie (emman) Bah
