  The respective leaders of the United Democratic Party (UDP) and the National Reconciliation Party (NRP) have expressed their determination to form an alliance after breaking away from the almighty opposition National Alliance for Democracy and Development (NADD).
   
  Speaking to reporters on Wednesday at the UDP bureau in Banjul, Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, Secretary General of UDP, said unequivocally that he has resigned from NADD since 1 February this year and has formally and explicitly made that known to the Independent Electoral Commission. 
   
  “It is a known fact that on 17 January 2005 the five political parties signed an MOU [Memorandum of Understanding] at Palm Grove Hotel and those who signed did it for representing the parties they have been standing for.”
   
  He said the MOU provides the continued existence of the parties and they all agreed that this was necessary so as to unseat the APRC party.Lawyer Darboe stated that the alliance that was established was later formed into a political party.
   
  He said after the formation of NADD as a political party there were several problems that hindered the development of the alliance. “In any organisation, there must be trust and mutual understanding but I have observed in the past few months certain facts of untrust among certain members,” he said.
   
  Lawyer Darboe disclosed that upon tendering his resignation to the executive of NADD, he was advised to keep a tight lip on the issue. “I was told by the NADD executive not to make it public,” he told journalists at his party bureau.
   
  Darboe said further that preparations are under way for the UDP and NRP to form an alliance and would invite other interested political parties in the country to join them. 
  He stated that UDP would Saturday organize a mass political rally in Brikama to which Hamat Bah is invited.
