Vicki,

Tying a comforter is different because you thread your string, folded in
half, down and up one stitch, leave one end about two or less inches from
the top, then tie two knots.  Then you cut the thread so that you have four
strands sticking up, then go to another place and start again.  So you have
a blanket with strings on it.
