Hi Danny,
In the very old days when the TR7400 was current, Kenwood made a
device which they called an active filter. It was a device which
permitted P L transmit and receive. The Kenwood units were good for
one subaudible frequency; so there were a bunch of them
available. They mounted inside the transceiver and the knob on the
right front top corner of the transceiver was used to turn the
functionality on and off.
Trying to find the "active filter" elements these days is a trick. I
have a TR7400 but haven't been successful finding the device; but I
haven't looked too hard.
No voice output, but the frequency control knobs had ten positions
and, at least in some models, there were stops at the end of the
switch rotation. So it was simple to count to a frequency you
wanted. And there was a pushbutton toggle switch that did the plus
five khz. switch.
Great transceiver for its time and if you live somewhere that
subaudible tone isn't important, still a decent choice.
Hope this helps.
