lol, I've known a few people that change mics a lot that have shorted out
the modular jacks, and if you short that pin with the 8 volts on it in an
icom with 1 of the ones next to it, the cost of the repair sky rockets very
fast.

I'd like to shoot the developer of the modular telephone style connectors.
The contact points are too small, too close together, and too fragile. The
so-called latch is mechanically stupid and fragile. About the only good
thing is they are cheap. I also agree with Steve that the 8-pin round style
is much better. But they didn't ask me, heck I'd even take D-subminiatures,
like those on computer RS-232 cables. I'll get off soapbox.
