I'd think you'd lose desk space, that's the main problem I have with the
radio, if they made it so you could put the control head on the radio it
would make a lot more sense, make it optional.

Rich,
There is a mounting bracket included to mount the large unit into a car(or
somewhere) and two brackets for mounting/holding the remote head (take your
choice).
By mounting/putting the remote head separate from the large unit you'll gain
more desk space!!  Although I'm a sightling, wife is blind.
