Gluten Sensitivity: Could gluten intolerance make me feel sick?

It may be possible that you have a gluten sensitivity that is not defined as
celiac disease or DH. People may be sensitive to gluten, and not have CD. This
intolerance may be caused by a number of factors, but the end result is the
same - the need to restrict gluten in one's diet.

The Gluten Intolerance Group (GIG) recognizes that not all gluten sensitivity
is celiac disease and has worked with it's medical advisory to create a new
brochure to address this issue. While there is little scientific evidence in
this area, it is being recognized that for some reason some people respond
favorably to gluten withdrawal from the diet. This intolerance may be similar to
lactose intolerance, or have its origin in a brain-gut reaction or some other
reason. It is important to recognize that it does exist and that treatment with
a gluten-free diet is the treatment of choice. As important is emphasis on
ruling out CD and other conditions by appropriate testing before assuming gluten
intolerance.
