THat' VIc, w1wcr. I'm not sure that's all done with hardware
before the antenna. I used to wonder about that myself, but
occasionally I'll throw my comments in with those guys on a
SAturday night if nothing else is going on with me. HE
seems to hear quite well too.
I think he's doing something with a vertical and a couple
different receive antennas.
IIRC one is a beverage. Used to think for a long time vic
might have a little illegal fire in the wire, but that sure
ain't no alligator station.
YOu still might be right, but at least his signal's clean <g>.
SOMebody else mentioned false distress calls. tHese are why
on the maritime net we ask vessels in distress for a
telephone number of a stateside contact that we can call to
verify some information. OF course we'll follow up on the
position report and situation report, then call the coasties
to getthings started, unless we have real strong indications
that it's bogus from the start.
Btw listers I can often be found monitoring there or midcars
7258 khz, usually 14.3 however.
