What they're looking at that band for in NC is as an intermediate band
to support emergency communications when 40 is to long or noisy or if
75 is too noisy. They've already done one SET and were generally
pleased with the way the 60 meter channels performed.

You have to remember that the 60 meter band is a group of specific
frequencies, and that I believe the power is limited, so in order to
be able
to monitor, one would need to be on the specific freq's for this band.
I
have heard some signals on the band, but I think most are looking at
it from
the idea of working all states.
