I think that the stations in the 1600-1710 portion of the AM band generally
use pretty low power. Also, there's little competition yet for frequencies
up there like there is for the more common freqs, so you don't have quite
the same problems. There's a station in Atlanta, WWAA, at 1690 that I was
listening to just this morning.

I hear a lot of stuff between 1600 and 1700 kHz. I hear some stuff from
Tennessee and Alabama that I don't normally hear below 1600. Also, I hear a
strong signal at 1700--which I believe is in Canada. It's format is
African-American oriented.
