the fan might be just starting to go bad. sorry to say that but I have one
in my computer doing that now, it makes noise at startup in the morning but
then is fine all day after a few minutes. that's about all I can think of
unless maybe the fan just came loose but that's a long shot.

Subject: interesting little problem with Kenwood TMV7A
Hi, all.
As many of you know, I purchased a used Kenwood TMV7A at the Dayton
Hanvention several weeks ago.
The rig works great, and I absolutely love it, since it's identical to the
TMV7A I have in the car.
Anyway, I have noticed an interesting little problem with the rig that I
thought I'd ask about here.
When I first transmit with the rig early in the morning when the rig is cool
and hasn't been used for 8 or 10 hours, the cooling fan makes kind of a
vibrating or "grinding noise. If I jiggle or shake the rig gently, the
noise stops. This only happens on first key-up, and at no other times. I
know that the fan slows down slightly whenever the transmitter is keyed, but
this is a weird grinding or vibrating noise that happens only once after 8
or 10 hours of the rig being completely off.
I am using the rig as a base unit here at the house, and have it on the
mounting bracket on my study desk. The rig is angled so that the fan is
facing down, and the control head is up at about a 30-degree angle. I run
the rig with a power supply that is 14 amp continuous, and 12 amp surge. I
usually only run 5 or 10 watts.
I sure hope I don't have to send the rig in for servicing. It's a weird
little problem that only happens when I first use the rig.
Is there something I could do here to address the situation?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
By the way: I've written to Kenwood about this also; will see if I get a
response.
