I, too, am running a fairly recent (July 2005) Dell computer (PrecisionWorkstation 370, as opposed to XPS), but I am one to routinely check for updated drivers (especially when situations such as the one you describe crop up) at the company sites of the peripherals I have installed. I have, for example already upgraded the Dell's BIOS from A03 to A05, updated the video card drivers for the ATI FireGL PCIx, and checked for SoundBlaster Audigy2 SE drivers. In the case of the video drivers, I needed to update in order to utilize the screen rotation feature of the monitor and the driver. As installed, I couldn't even use the monitor's ability to rotate to 'portrait' orientation, since the most up-to-date drivers (or all of their features) weren't installed. If you haven't already done so, check your hardware for what brands and models of peripherals are installed, then (if you can get to them without the browser crashing) go to the company web sites to see if updated drivers are available, download them, and install them.
