OPINION
Re- Nino Veira Part I & II
By Dave Manneh

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

October 6, 2005
It is quite easy to notice when one "works" by connotation and
association, AND not by argument and reason. And thus it's no great
surprise to me to see that both the content and tone of that particular
so-called Op-Ed piece clearly manifesting an extreme example of someone
who lacks both the demographical, ethno-political, historical and/or
socio-political perspectives of the whole Guinea-Bissau debacle.

In essence, the piece failed at the very first hurdle, in that the author
either didn't bat an eyelid before cooking up unsubstantiated allegations
[based solely on hearsays and innuendoes] or couldn't give a fig for the
truth. Either way, I guess the lesson to be learnt from this is that the
editorial board of AllGambian newspaper should pay careful [and
particular] attention to not inadvertently according "carte blanche" to
writers [if this character could be called that] who in all honesty lack
the basics of effective communication, not to mention the ethics of
journalism. In theory at least, Op-Ed pieces use arguments to promote
points of views in reflection of individual authors' and not NECESSARILY
that of the paper, but the space SHOULD not be accorded to a loon who
obviously lacks the conviction to, or indeed even grasp the fundamentals
of journalism and basic human decency, but instead prefers to regard it as
an adjunct to his own narrow-minded critiques.

Naturally, it is not a great surprise to anyone that Mr. Mamadu [and
perhaps, to a lesser extent myself and others] feels a bit slighted by it
all.

Regards, Dave
NB: Sadly, due to other commitments, I do not have time for engaging in
online debates but I would really appreciate an opportunity to debunk
these lies in your "esteemed" paper. In patient anticipation of your
cooperation.
