The death of prominent Gambian business tycoon and proprietor of Sankung
Sillah & Sons Ltd, has been announced on Saturday. Mr Sankung Sillah met
his untimely death while performing Umra in Saudi Arabia on Saturday. His
remains were buried in Saudi the same day according to sources close to
his family in his former Fajara resident.
His family did not disclose his age, but many suspected that he is in
his late 70s. Converged at his Fajara resident were leading business men
such as Basiru Jawara, Lie Mboge and as well some dignitaries who paid
their last respect to the Sillah family. One of his Neighbours described
Sankung as a humble and kind hearted man "we will surely miss Sankung a
lot as he was a very good neighbour to us, and also a true Muslim" he
said. Efforts to speak to his wife or any other member of his family
were unsuccessful, as the compound was over crowded.
Mr.Sillah was operating a soap factory in Kanifing and had employed many
Gambians at that factory, which observers say had contributed immensely
to Gambia's socio economic development. The business fraternity in The
West African country, told The ALLGAMBIAN that the demise of Mr.Sillah was
a big loss to the nation and the sub-region as whole. They expressed
hope that his family will do everything in their means to sustain
Mr.Sillah's legacy and maintain his factory. "Mr.Sillah, was a devoted
Muslim who helped the poor and needy." says one observer. His death came
as a shock to the entire nation, added a family member.
