Hello,
As a pediatric physical therapist I have run into this problem a few times. I have a few suggestions/questions:
1) If you changed the hardware that the joystick is on would this help. Make it lower or more to the side? Both of these sites have different hardware components and may help. But would that change her ability to drive?

2) Also do you have desk length or full length arms? If you have desk length arms, Amanda may be able to pull in closer to the table or is it just the joystick that is the problem?
3) The vendor should be able to change the joy stick size to a smaller one. But the vendor may be restricted to the different sizes depending on Amanda's tone and fine motor control. Sometimes if the child has too much tone or limited fine motor control the joy stick components need to be larger so that the child can drive the wheelchair or to protect the mechanics of the joystick. There are joysticks that are controlled by the head/mouth but I am not sure whether these would interface with the hand held ones.
4) I looked up the quickie website and found the Z500 for pediatric power mobility but not the P500. Could it be the Z500?http://www.quickiewheelchairs.com/pediatricwheelchairs.htm<http://www.qu<http://www.quickiewheelchairs.com/pediatricwheelchairs.htm<http://www.qu>ickiewheelchairs.com/pediatric-wheelchairs.htm>
Hope this helps some,
Greta
