thought the limit was actually  6KHZ?
You can run up to 6K wide legally as long as you do not exceed that
limit...but for some reason there are no radios manufactured that will
actually transmit out of the box wider then 3.6 or what ever those upper end
ones will do.
Although, not sure how its done but most radios can easily transmit that
wide band width without being modified.
