Hi All,

I'm a new convert to paleo. I'm hoping that someone(s) here will have some
advice for me.

First and most important, any suggestions on transitioning my son? He only
eats soy patties, yogurt, crackers, bread w/peanut butter (well, almond
butter now), and other non-paleo foods. He won't touch meat or veggies, and
sometimes I have to try hard to get fruit in him. He will eat apples (and
sometimes bananas) with almond butter spread on them, and sometimes nuts. I
worry that if I take out the non-paleo stuff, there's not going to be much
left that he'll eat. I'm still breastfeeding him (I think that's VERY
paleo!) so I know he's getting some good stuff but he's too old for
breastmilk to be his sole or even main source of nutrition. Any ideas for
making my neo-kid paleo? :-)

Other questions I have include:

--Did you gradually change your eating habits, or abruptly change everything
at once?

--Do the cravings go away, and when?

--Anyone here have diabetes and care to share if you've experienced any
recovery? Were your docs on board? Mine are anti-low-carb.

--Anyone lose a significant amount of weight? How long did it take? Did you
have to do anything besides eating paleo (count calories, limit certain
foods, etc.)?

--If you had a small book budget, which would you buy? I bought Neanderthin
(it was 6.99) at Borders but didn't see the others I've seen referenced
online.

--Also, where do you get your food? I don't want to eat grain-fed meat. But
I also wanna be able to keep putting money in my son's college fund! Did
your food bill go up when you started buying nuts and meats and lots of nut
butters and flours and organic produce? I'm assuming that it'll even out
since I won't be buying all the other stuff - ?

--Is flax paleo?

--Do you take supplements?

--Finally, anyone know of a paleo egg substitute? I'm allergic, and all of
the replacers I know of are either soy or potato. I've tried bananas with
somewhat mixed results.

Sorry to inundate you with all of these questions, but I'm just trying to
get my bearings straight. I was a vegetarian, and a vegan for a while, and
have really tried a bunch of low fat high carb diets/ways of eating - so
this is a big change for me.

Thanks

Anne
