how old is the pentium?
Even 333MHZ pentium 1 can run elequence without too much trouble using
windows 98SE.
I used 266 machines running windows 98SE and JFW 4.0 with elequence without
any difficulty.
Of course, if you want to use heavily taxing programs then you start running
into problems, but that is true for newer faster machines too.
The external synth is a good idea of course, but elequence and a half decent
sound card, which are dirt cheap, will do the trick nicely if you can't
locate a synth.
Get a 10 dollar multi channel sound card and your in business.
Just my 2 cents worth.
