Yesterday Sunday afternoon I made some excellent contacts on 20, 17, 15, and
ten meters. In fact most this weekend was great. Sunday alone I must have
talked to over 20 stations. Some of them were stateside and others were in
South America and I also worked an English station briefly. Accept I hate
contests so I disappeared after he called some other people. He acknowledged
my call at first and then I guess he thought he was going to put me on hold
all day. I wasn't going to sit there and listen to him work 10 people, none
of whom I could hear. At least he mentioned my call I guess. From now on if
I have an actual conversation with the station I reach, I'll log it.
Otherwise as far as I'm concerned it's miscommunication to just exchange
call signs and signal reports. Contesting was going on all weekend so I
worked some of the stronger stations--some of them were polite and some of
them were brief and in a rush. Remember my antenna is not really good so
people loose patients with me too. It works both ways I guess. I'm just glad
15 and 17 are sort of open again, since my antenna likes those bands.

You also mentioned hearing zl and vk stations on twenty meters. I don't
hear them really good here. Perhaps it's my antenna, perhaps those stations
not reached my window. I know that the Americans can work in to vk and zl
because they have directional antennas. I don't, so I've never experienced
working with a beam. I wish I could do that kind of work but it's not
possible here. I'm just hoping I can get this antenna matched more
appropriately so I can do some lower band work. No matter how the bands are,
75, 80, and 40 meters usually have activity. I just don't get threw very
good there. I doubt that tuning the antenna better will improve my signal.
However, a 3 to 1 match just about everywhere won't do. I have a sighty
who's supposed to drop by this week with a brand new tuner for my rig. He's
also going to look upon perhaps extending my sloper. He suspects that it's a
little short for 80 meters. He's not positive that he can do much, but we'll
see. I'll write back and let you know what I find. I asked about this
antenna before on list, but it's obvious that this antenna isn't really
popular amongst our friends. I run the Alfa delta dx b sloper. If all goes
well, I expect to use this antenna for all bands. If not, then certain bands
then.

There was some good openings into VK and ZL last night and early this =
morning on 20M.
This after almost a month of nearly dead band conditions.
Just curious about other areas, especially in the west and mid west U S =
experiencing both dead 20M conditions and recent openings?

I made a contact with vk3ok using a half wave 20M inverted V with the =
apex only at about 16 feet and the ends of the legs about 3 feet off the =
ground.
This as a temporary antenna seems to work better then expected.

Also had a great inversion layer last night on 2M and 70CM.=20
and talked on repeaters over 150 kilometers away with full quieting.
We usually get those repeaters during these inversion layers but never =
full quieting on receive and input.
