laptop sound cards can do that some times, I know mine has trouble keeping
up with some games and stuff.

indeed...although total recorder has that built right in. Not sure if its
just my picky laptop sound card but total recorder seems to take over the
settings and made working with other audio applications difficult and
sometimes disabled audio altogether...again, this might have just been my
phunky sound card.
