it was reported that the u.s. navy had ships in the
gulf riding out the storm. FEMA told them not to come
to the port of new orleans. i guess they could have
presumably helped.

on the other side: it was also reported today (you can
dig it out on red cross site if you shearch) that the
american red cross had food, water, and personal
hygene kits in place and ready to truck in to the
people who were in the civic center and the super
dome, but were told that they could not deliver them
by new orleans and state "officals." the reason gave
"if you give them food, water, and comfort items, more
people will comne and will not want to leave", " we do
not want them to stay and we do not want to create a
magnet to draw more people in."

futher it was revealed that the mayor was interviewed
on a new orleans radio station a few days before the
storm hit and it was suggested that he use the school
busses to take the poor to safety and he dismissed the
idea saying he wanted greyhound to see all there
busses to new orleans. "get their asses down here and
bus the poor out." i hear what was reported to be the
tape.

the washington post reorted that president bushes
budget for the corps of engineers spent more in his 5
years than all 8 years of the clinton admin. the post
further reported that new orleans politicians would
use riders in bills they knew would not be vetoed to
force the corps to use money on projects that the
corps deemed useless or of little value. that would
meen the money would not get spent on levees. the
present u.s. senator was given as an example with the
deepening of a port new new orllens that had little
trffic and the dredging of parts of the rivers that
had lttle if any barge traffic. it further reported
that La. got more by far than any other state, coming
in at around 2 1/2 billion dollars a year, cailf. was
a distant 2nd with 1 billion even though it had many
times the population of La.
the post further reported that the corps of engineers
says that position of the wetlands projects would not
have cousioned new orleans becouse of there location
relative to where katrina came ashore and the
direction it headed. they also stated that the sea
wall that broke was a finished project and had no
scheduled maintenace in the mix.

some of this like femas action and that of the red
cross being restrained from giving those folks food,
water, and hygene kits frost me.

the rest i am storing away in the things to know
catagory.
