You simply have to teach them how to turn it off when they want to use the
machine, and you have to use a Hot Key to turn it back on when you need it.
My wife and I share a machine and we don't have any problems with it. That
is just as long as no one mutes the sound card in order to shut off the
sound effects of the unit. I've had to instruct my sighted family members
to turn down the volume of the speaker when they don't want sound, otherwise
I have no way of getting back to the Volume Control to un mute it.

As for JAWS speaking too much stuff, learning how to operate it will give
you several methods of reducing the verbosity down to a level that will be
comfortable for you. Also, use the control key to silence it when you don't
want it to read a whole page or document.

Good luck.

I've had good luck listening to the DAISY formatted Tutorials that come with
the JAWS program, but I'm not sure if they are part of the version 5.0
software.

Subject: JAWS 5.0 on windows XP

Hi Everyone!

I want to install JAWS 5.0 (which I have), on my home Windows XP machine.
The problem is, I have a wife and two kids that use this PC too and I don't
want to interfere with their useage time. Does anybody have any ideas? Can
JAWS 5.0 be installed for only one user? I am asking this because I am
starting to use JAWS for the first time and have absolutely no idea what I'm
in store for. I did install it once and got really tired of it reading
EVERYTHING on the screen EVERY TIME. I know that this is the purpose of the
program, but I don't need all of this now. From reading this list, I have
discovered that JAWS is very customizable. This should be very useful and I
look forward to the experience.

Tanks for any help you can give!
Jerry
