Three months ago, I replaced the LCD, cable, inverter and battery on a Dell
C800 running W2K Pro and updated the BIOS. Recently, the screen started to
black out intermittently and then stopped working at all. I am able to use
the laptop on an external monitor. I've toggled the FN + monitor key, run
Windows Update and checked the driver, resolution and refresh rate, but to no
avail.
Later: I clicked the "i" hot/access direct key for the internet and the
screen came right on, but I have no idea why.
Later still: Hitting the "i" hotkey didn't work a 2d time. A restart
sometimes works, but other times it won't. It's not in standby, because I can see
the image faintly and there's no pin on the deck to get stuck. I updated
the BIOS, did the virus scans, defragged and it was working, but today, when I
restarted, it wouldn't and on another restart, it would. Any ideas? Thanks.
Hi,
LCD screens have flourescent lamps behind them to illuminate the screen.
It sounds like yours are not lighting properly. That would be the area that I
would start at for troubleshooting. The LCD panel is still working, that's
why you can see a faint image, but no fluorescent light behind it to light it
up.

Peter Hogan
