Other than having black coffee, I've been strict paleo (as we generally
understand it to be) for several months. Sat. evening I went off diet to
sample the buffet that I, mother of the groom, had ordered for all the
non-paleo guests. A couple of hours after I went to sleep that night I
awoke in godawful screaming pain with charley horses/muscle cramps in BOTH
legs. My calves. My husband tried to help me stretch them out but couldn't.
The spasms finally went away pretty much like they had begun--spontaneously
and on their own. I can't describe the pain. Then I got them above my knee
on the thigh. Then on the front/side of my lower left leg. Same
thing--couldn't rub or stretch it out. I suffered and whimpered until they
went away. A little later it felt like cramps were developing on the
bottoms of my feet but they never developed, maybe because I hopped out of
bed and got my feet stretched out before they could develop. A while after
that it felt, weirdness of weirdness, like a cramp was starting in my left
big toe. I got back out of bed and it never developed. My husband
insisted that I take three calcium capsules and some Tylenol. I did to
appease him, but reluctantly so. He thinks the cramps were caused by my not
eating dairy. I told him I thought they were caused by non-paleo food
*poisoning.* What's your take on this? Anybody ever had this happen?
