The Force Of Faith

A Series of Notes and Outlines.

By Phil Scovell.

Introduction.

Luke 17:5
And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith.

The Greek word for "increase" is (to add to, to gather
together, to collect).

Illustration.

My mother-in-law raised over 20,000 chickens each year.
Those that were set aside for laying hens produced hundreds of
eggs which she gathered daily. Mildred had a large basket that
would hold, she told me once, at least 150 eggs. People thought
she was crazy for putting all of her eggs in one basket. They
might break, they reasoned.

Definition Of Faith.

Putting all of your eggs in one basket. Gods.

Question. If we put all of our eggs in God's basket, will any
break?

The disciples recognize they already had faith. They had
already been sent out by the Lord to heal the sick and to cast out
demons, (See Luke 10:1-20).

Their desire was to have even more faith. We are His
disciples today. We have the same desire today as the disciples
did 2000 years ago. More faith to see our bills paid. More faith
to see our children live Godly lives. More faith to be healed of
sickness and disease. More faith so our church will grow that we
might reach more with the Gospel.

Jesus spoke of no faith, little faith, and great faith.
Thus, many today believe, and teach, in levels, or degrees, of
faith.

It is interesting to note that the Greek word for "faith" is
used 244 times in the New Testament. In John's Gospel, where, at
least eight miracles are described, the word "faith" never once
appears. The word for "believe," on the other hand, is used
exactly 100 times in the Gospel of John. The question is, why?
Is faith and believing synonymous and thus inner changeable?
