To All:

I tried to word my request carefully because I understand that lists are used for all kinds of topics.

Unfortunately the subject lines often do not reflect what is in the post and I have often found invaluable info in subject lines that seemed irrelevant.

I delayed making my request for several days because I understand the enormous impact Hurricane Katrina has had directly and indirectly.

However, after more than 100 posts, it seemed to me not an unreasonable request -- although I know from lots of real-life experiences that reasonable requests are often not consistent with the needs and desires of others.

I too like to play well with others.

I am affected by one of my four-year-old twins having "mild" diplegic spastic cp. He can walk with a walker and will have surgery in October done by Dr. Nuzzo. I often drift into wondering what life will be like for him down the road so I "lurk" on this list to hear the experiences of adults who have thrived and battled and lived and battled and dealt with cp over the years. The input I read from you all is really helpful to me in thinking about ways I can be helpful to Dylan in the coming years.

There are two comments I hear frequently from adults who are just getting to know Dylan:

"He's so happy." I think that's because (in addition to O.T., P.T. and speech exercises done daily) I have made a daily "goal" of laughing, playing and just being with Dylan daily.

The other comment is: "he's so good at getting around by himself" in his mainstream daycare, at the church playground etc. That's because it has been important to me to encourage Dylan to be as independent as possible and to do things for himself as much as possible.

So, thanks to all of you for sharing your thoughts and concerns and allowing others like me to listen in so (hopefully) I can learn what will be helpful to my little one (and his brothers) over the coming years.

Heather
