Hi Richard.

I think that you might want to rethink that longer power cord idea.  At
high current levels (i.e. 20 amps or better) on a 13.8 VDC power system,
resistance is your enemy, and excessively long long cords or connections in
that cord can introduce resistive losses that will translate into lower
voltage at the radio, heat losses in the cord, and degraded performance of
the radio.  If you are going to go for a longer cord, make it one long
continuous run of heavy wire rather than two with a splice in the middle
unless you are sure that that there is lots of surface area that is well
soldered between the two wires.  I think, for myself, I would try to keep
the supply as closs to the radio as possible, even if it means a long 120
VAC cord--resistive losses are far less significant on a 120 VAC power
circuit.
