I'm not sure there really is such a thing as a simple HT, but having said
that, there are a couple to consider. I'd recommend the Kenwood
TH-F6A. It's probably the most easily accessible radio on the
market. True, it has menus, but there are high and low beeps to tell you
where you are in a given menu. Icom's T90 is not quite as friendly in the
menus, but it does have a CW readout of the frequency. Although I've never
used one, those who have seem to like it. I hope this helps you start your
