I'm not sure how others do this, but I often connect a drive temporarily
outside the case. I learned this from a pro builder.
In the case of a drive coming from the freezer, I'd be very concerned
about moisture, and the thought of installing this drive in the drive
bay is a bit scary.
The connections are more difficult in some cases than others, but I have
yet to see a situation where this is not possible.
A case ground is not necessary, but stabilizing the drive is essential.
