Lynn,
Do you have anything else that runs on a battery?
Did you notice that after the battery seems to be dead, you can put the
appliance aside - whether it's a clock, a flashlight, a tape recorder, or
what have you - and the next time you pick it up it suddenly works just
fine?
Batteries are like that.
They get a final surge of energy even after they seem to be drained.
However, they are still dead, despite that surge of energy.
