Thanks for all the ideas.
The manufacturer is supplying a replacement.
I never wanted to fix it, just "see" what was on it
and "clean" it...  I'm running Autoclave on it now,
3 times...  "0000's",  "ffff's", and more "0000's" with
Linux something, (shred -x -v -n 3 /dev/hda)

The next "problem" I will have is that it is a 48bit LBA drive,
and the eraser program runs only to 137438952960 bytes.
That leaves me with 30G at the end that will not be cleaned...
(opps...)  (I have a scatter brained idea about how to handle
that easy...)
