Absolutely true.  I try to use about 1:3 ratio (ideally) of fat to meat 
by weight [V.Stefansson] which provides a majority of calories from the 
fat.  If I omit the fat, experimentally, I get to feeling somewhat as 
you described.  Certain fatty cuts of meat can be helpful in the diet, 
such as brisket.
