I was amazed at and appreciative of the number of responses I got - 63 in
all. Thank you everyone.

Regarding my question about keeping flour in the house or getting rid of
all of it as my gastroenterologist suggested:

26 responses agreed with him - get it all out of the house

6 responses were middle of the road - neither in favor of or strongly
against. Thought it was our decision to make

26 responses said OK to keep in the house but be sure to thoroughly clean
after using regular flours and to keep strict separation from the GF.
Separate toasters, etc. were mentioned by many.

We have decided to get the flours out of the house for now. We kept a few
in the freezer and may try using them in a few months or may not.
We'll see.

Regarding the question about the person who uses aspirin when the
possibility of gluten ingestion occurs:

25 responses said they had never of such a thing or thought it was a very
bad idea.

2 responses were from people who had heard of it - one knew someone who
does take ASA in the given situation

As I said in the original question - this is not anything I intend to ever
try.

Again - thanks to all who responded. I have baked several breads and a
couple of batches of cookies using different recipes in an effort to find
something that works for me. Also made some blueberry muffins that came
out quite well. The woman who owns a bakery near us bakes gluten-free to
order twice a week; after the first of the year my husband and I are
going to go down to observe and get some wisdom from her. We have been
there and tried some of her products; they are excellent. The bakery is
in a small town in the Finger Lakes area of NYS - she told us she has over
100 customers for the gluten-free products.
