Hi, all.
As many of you already know, I teach at a University here in Michigan called
Ferris State University. I am in an office building on the second floor,
and my office is in the middle of a row of adjacent offices on that floor.
Over the past 3 or so years, I have been using an Icom ICW32A HT with a
3-amp regulated power supply, and a twin-lead J-pole, mounted on one of my
office walls. Any qsos I have had have been either on our local 2-meter or
440 repeater, and my maximum power has been 5 watts.
Up until today, I have never had any complaints of RFI from any of my
colleagues. However, late this afternoon, the guy next to me said that I
was coming through either his computer speakers, or the speakers on a
portable CD player that he is using. Why he couldn't tell me which ones, I
don't know, but I was clearly coming through something.
Obviously, I could reduce my power to the low power setting, but that may
make it harder for me to get into our 2-meter repeater which is about 12
miles away. I also could run the HT on battery power, which likely would
eliminate or at least lessen the problem.
Does anyone have some other suggestions I might try on my end to help deal
with this problem?
I want to "keep peace" in the office, but still operate when needed.
