Sounds like the scanner wasn't properly re-installed, or when Win98 was
reinstalled it needed the USB support patch applied.
I'd try removing the scanner from the hardware list in control panel.
Uninstalling any software and unplugging the scanner. Next, re-start the
computer without the scanner plugged in. Run the install from Agfa and only
connect the scanner during the install when told to.
If that doesn't work, SE is supposed to support USB, you could also try the
USB support patch from Microsoft.
