I've just uploaded to PigHabit-L (in the photos section) images of two
sculpture panels that adorn our 1956 county courthouse.
See http://ph.groups.yahoo.com/group/PigHabit-L/photos/browse/343e
I'm using these images as the front and back covers of the soon to be
published county directory for 2007-08. (For the 2005-06 directory, I
used a 1904 postcard image of the former 1877 county courthouse, which
was demolished in the mid-1950s).
A question has arisen as to the item that appears in the lower left of
the "Power and Mercy" panel. It looks like a rocket ship to our eyes,
but I think it was meant to portray a furnace or vessel used in steel
making.
Could anyone supply the correct descriptor?
