I am writing for a friend in the Philadelphia area who could use recommendations for a good physician experienced in diagnosing autoimmune conditions.
She has experienced a sudden onset of symptoms including joint inflammation (particularly in the ribs), neuropathy, heart palpitations, muscle weakness, fatigue, and severe itching.
While still awaiting results on tests for various autoimmune conditions, she is facing the usual quick dismissal that the problems are emotional in origin. [How many of us went through that stage before getting a valid diagnosis!]
Her symptoms could be associated with so many different autoimmune conditions, but each specialist seems to be familiar with only one and doesn't know quite what to make of symptoms that don't match up exactly with that one.
That makes me wonder if there are physicians specializing in autoimmune conditions as a family of disorders and therefore more open to sorting through the possibilities presented by a wide range of symptoms.
If anyone knows of good physicians with open minds and experience dealing with a range of autoimmune conditions, please email me their names and locations.
Thanks!
