Since several people have emailed me about this, for clarification,
Trader Joe's Soy Cheese Alternative Mozzarella Flavor isn't entirely
dairy-free (it contains casein, as was listed in the ingredients list).
To the best of my knowledge it is gluten-free, however, as Trader Joe's
says all of its cheeses on the west coast are gluten-free. The cheese
tastes good and that's why I thought I would share information about it.
My problem with dairy either doesn't have to do with casein or requires
a lot more than what is in soy cheese (my inhalant allergies go from
unnoticeable to problematic if I'm consuming milk or dairy products in
all but the smallest quantities). For those who do react to casein, this
cheese substitute would be a no-no as well; sorry.
