You need to go into your BIOS during the boot (press Delete key or F1 during the POST screen, or whatever key your machine requires). You can set most BIOS' to stop or not stop on errors, although if your PS2 plug is on its way out there isn't much to do about that unless you can fix it yourself. As for the USB problem you can set USB to be enabled in your BIOS, but my recollection is that USB keyboards aren't fully loaded until the OS is up and running. I keep my PS2 keyboard, a PS2 mouse and a USB mouse just because USB inputs aren't fully operational during the boot.
