No D and E Drives

I have one hard drive set as primary master; another hard drive as
secondary master, and the CD-ROM as Secondary Master.  During boot, all
three are found and displayed as being there.  Somehow, before or when it
gets to the desktop, the D drive is gone and the E drive, CD-ROM is gone.
 I can't figure this one out.  Thanks.  Tom Abel, Sierra Vista, AZ
