Are (or have) any of you taken acidophilus (or bifidis) as a dietary
supplement? I originally started taking it many years ago because I
avoided fermented foods, which gave me problems and had come to
accept the idea that acidophilus takes the place of fermented food
which are an integral part of the diet of many traditional cultures.
What is the thought in terms of paleolithic dietary practices and
acidophilus? Did paleolithic man occasionally ingest acidophilus
rich substances? Is acidophilus not a concern because the gut
bacteria is able to maintain its balance without being ingested? Do
any of you take it as "insurance" for good health? There are
clinical studies where acidophilus is used to regain balance with gut
flora. Is there any recommendation to consume it for general health?
