The Movement for Democracy and Development would like to thank all those who came from far and near to participate in the launching of NADD in New York City yesterday. The turn out was nothing like we have ever seen before. The Gambia Society Hall was so full that some people were standing outside for want of space.
Despite a grueling four-hour journey from DC that same morning, the NADD delegates held the crowd’s attention with their presentations and did their best to answer questions from the floor. We apologize to those who, for lack of sufficient time, did not have an opportunity to submit their questions or observations to the delegates. We just hope that the dialogue will continue through the greater participation of all concerned Gambians.
The presence of Dr. Abdoulaye Saine (Save The Gambia Democracy Project) and James
Bahoum (Movement for Restoration of Democracy in The Gambia – UK) was indeed heartening
to our common cause of supporting NADD to effect a peaceful democratic change in The
Gambia. Their speeches only strengthened our resolve.
We specifically wish to thank The Gambia Society of New York for generously allowing us to use their hall and other facilities at no cost to the Movement. We need to emphasize that the Gambia Society has been supportive of the local Gambian community regardless of political affiliations and social status.
Kudos to Radio Free Gambia once again! Sheikh Tijan did a great job with the
coverage and the interviews. Check out the live interviews at www.freegambia.com.
Finally, we would like to thank the various donors for their support. After the meeting, it has become ever more evident that the coalition needs our support, especially through funding. The Movement will be holding a fundraising program at the Gambia Society Hall on July 29. Details will be posted soon.
