Rene and all those who responded,
The goal is to document some of the things that make who we. While names
are not unique to our cultures, these "other names" for lack of a better
term are definitely one of the things that sets us apart from the few
Western cultures I know of. My plan is to compile all contributions into
a list of Gambian Other Names. There is no doubt that such list will be
good starting place for scholars and researchers on Gambia cultures.
Since Gambia-L is one of the largest Gambian bantaba ever, there is no
better place to discuss Mam's University version of things in our
cultures. As Basss said let's here from all. Nothing should be "absurd"
or "propustrous". Afterall it does not have to make sense, we are only
documenting what what our elders say!
Malanding
ps. I will weekly compilations with contributors referenced at the end
of every Friday.
