Thank you all for the wealth of information you have
sent me! I appreciate your help so very much. I have
been to the doctor already; she did a lot of tests
including ECG/EKGs and an Ambulatory monitor, as well
as several blood tests. I go tomorrow to hopefully
find a diagnosis. Given the fact that I am only 27, I
am pretty confident my heart is physically healthy. I
am more worried about a vitamin/mineral deficiency,
and stress. I will be sure my doctor has checked
everything. Below is the summary of responses I
received (and the number of people who mentioned it),
as well as some other helpful information. I was also
sent an article about Iron Overload, and TASTE TESTS
for electrolytes. I would be happy to send this
information to anyone who is interested.

7 Thyroid/Hyperthyroidism
2 Low Blood Glucose Levels
2 Hypoglycemia
Cortisols, for cushings or adrenal insufficiency.
Mytrial Valve Syndrome which is related to auto immune
diseases
5 Anemia
Too much Iron
Hemochromatosis
5 Mineral deficiency i.e. Potassium, magnesium, B12,
calcium, etc.
Dehydration
Lack of nutrition
2 mitralvalve prolapse syndrome triggered by stress
and caffeine
CFIDS (Chronic Fatigue Immune Dysfunction Syndrome)
multiple chemical sensitivities
3 Menopause/premenopause
Hormonal Flucuations
5 Too much Caffeine or other similar stimulants
2 Lack of Sleep
2 Stress/Anxiety
cardiac problems
hypertension
Acid Reflux

The best thing I can think of is to read the Merck
Manual Home Edition; it has a wealth of information;
you can buy it for $9 in Barnes & Noble; a lot of
libraries have it. It is a standard medical reference
indexed by disorder & symptom.
------------------
Synthroid medication (GF) for thyroid problems
------------------
You can look up a nutrient deficiency list online by
searching "arrhythmias>nutrient deficiency", "heart
palpitations>nutrient deficiency", and "nutrient
deficiencies>arrhythmias", etc, on Yahoo or Google or
Ask Jeeves search engines.
------------------
A book that is great for all sorts of health problems
and has great nutritional info. It is called
"Prescriptions for Nutritional Healing" by Phyllis and
James Balch, MD. If you buy this book, get the most
recent edition, which would be the third or fourth
edition. (Ask at the book store, as they can be out
of the most recent and still have older ones.)
------------------
Palps can be caused also by certain drugs, cardiac
problems, hypertension, anxiety, or stress--emotional
or physical. Even caffeine, alcohol, tobacco, or
other stimulants, can cause this. To help determine
the cause, it is necessary to know the type of
palpitation you are having--is it suddenly racing,
increasingly faster, irregular, etc? Do you have
dizziness and shortness of breath with it, or
increased blood pressure? Do you experience weakness
or fatigue with it? All of this can be further
researched by researching "arrhythmia(s)" online, to
help track down your particular problem, if you cannot
figure it out by considering the nutritional info.
Also, food sensitivities can cause heart palps in odd
cases. Many with celiac disease also have numerous
other food sensitivities, as well.

Any of the first group of problems --anemia,
hypocalcemia, carnitine deficiency, other nutritional
deficiencies, hypoglycemia, and thyroid problems--have
fatigue as a symptom. So, you will need to go to
other symptoms... do you get chilled or overly hot
for no reason? (thyroid); are you shaky and trembly or
get tireder after eating? (hypoglycemia); do you
blackout when you go to stand up? (anemia); do you
have problems with exercising? (carnitine, heart
problems)..... The caffeine or stimulant usage would
not be your problem, though stress or heart problems
can cause fatigue, too.
------------------
Celiac causes malabsorption of food nutrients, which
causes anemia, which can cause fatigue and heart
problems. I would suggest blood tests for anemia. DO
NOT start the iron pills on you own, without getting
the blood tests! There are several other conditions
that can cause the exact same symptoms I described
above, and some of them are very serious!
------------------
Don't assume it's Celiac related. Get a Cardiac
(heart) Workup. If that shows no problem, THEN look
for Celiac related problems.
------------------
I would look into mitral valve prolapse, CFIDS
(Chronic Fatigue Immune Dysfunction Syndrome), or
multiple chemical sensitivities. I have all those and
usually if my heart speeds up lately it's because I've
been exposed to chemicals like in a store with strong
"new" odors or where pesticides have been used. A
cardiologist can diagnose the MVP. You can probably
self diagnose the chemical sensitivities by reading up
on the internet and observing when and where it
happens. (Changing my household cleaners to non-toxic
made a big difference for me.) The CFIDS is where it
gets tricky for testing. Hardly any docs know how to
diagnose that. Look on the CFIDS Assoc. of America
website. You can also look on the website
www.endfatigue.com. Teitelbaum is reputable.
--------------------
Please try doing a search for "magnesium" and
"palpitations". You will find plenty of information.
Magnesium deficiency often occurs in celiac disease
and can be the cause of palpitations. My research
indicates that the best form of magnesium to take is
magnesium taurate. You might also try doing a search
for "magnesium" and "taurate".

Thanks Again!!
~Jen
