I just got this response below to my question about a connection between
celiac and retinal tears. This might apply to me because I have never been a very
flexible person. I am pitiful in yoga class. The explanation from my eye
doctors has been that one loses their stretchiness in the eyes with age and that
can cause a retinal tear. I will be checking out manganese.
I'm a massage therapist, and am convinced that poor connective tissue is a
common symptom of CD. I take manganese, which is used to strengthen tendons,
and this has been a tremendous help to me. I have been out for about 6
weeks, and I can feel my joints shift around when I pick things up or dig in
the garden. Not just my back but hip joints and everything. I don't know
if manganese would affect how well retinas are attached, but it's worth
thinking about if you are not very stretchy. I've been GF for 4 years, but
still seem to need some supplemental Mn and Ca to tighten my joints.
