I had a rare excellent dining experience at Pei Wei Restaurant, which is
owned by PF Chang, in the Nasa/Clear Lake area, Houston, TX a couple of
weeks ago. They are located on I-45 northbound near Baybrook Mall. I am
normally very sensitive and eating out is almost impossible for me, however
I was brave and sweet, spoke directly with the manager, Lane, asked him to
personally supervise the making of my meal. I ordered sweet and sour shrimp
with brown rice and it was fantastic and I didn't get sick at all. He even
managed to leave out the onions which I am also allergic to. I had a glass
of red merlot wine with the meal. The server who delivered my food didn't
know that it was gluten free when he delivered it to our table which scared
me, but no matter, I am sure he had nothing to do with cooking the food.
Ask for the manager. They had a gluten free menu available (4 items on it)
but the people at the register were ignorant, again, ask for the manager.
It is sort of cafeteria style, you wait on a line and come up to the
register, order your food and get your drinks, then sit down and wait for it
to be delivered. It was very crowded, the food smelled wonderful in general
rather than gluten laden air like in fast food restaurants. The prices were
very reasonable, the food looked nutritious; I can see why it is very
popular especially among the younger crowd.

Celiac best,

Dorina, near Galveston, TX
