At the recommendation of people on this listserv, I went to Mama's Italian
Restaurant in Oakdale, New York (1352 Montauk Highway, Oakdale (Long Island)
NY 631-567-0909).
I am very nervous about eating out, but after talking to the owner, I had no
worries. The menu was extensive (appetizers, salads, seafood, pasta, soups
-- all gluten free!)
The food was great! I had fried calamari and gf pasta. My husband, who eats
gf to keep me company, had chicken parmigiana. It's been years since I had
real Italian food. I bet I could serve this gluten-free food to my Italian
father-in-law and he'd never know the difference.
My gluten-eating friends loved their food too.
