You ask very complex questions. What I will say that life would not exist
without glutamate. It is a very necessary neurotransmitter. The problem with
it is with balance - meaning too much. I would assume if a mother was eating a
lot of processed food containing MSG and very little minerals and vitamins -
cooked out of processed food - where else would baby get the minerals, vits,
aminos and co-enzymes if mother was not getting them in her food supply which
would become neurotoxic - as mother would not have the vital things to
metabolise the MSG and then glutamate - her levels would automatically make up
the baby's food supply. ITs common sense. The reason it would be bad for a
baby would be the same reasons it was bad for an adult. We all need the proper
fuel to run on.

Look at what too much glutamate does (you don't have to fear glutamate in
whole food). You need to fear added free glutamate (MSG)and if you have a
disease state then 1) it could either be brought about by MSG and then by free
glutamate in food as you were already out of balance, 2) it will speed up any
disease state brough on by other factors and then again free glutamate from
whole food sources could become a problem too.

This will show you how glutamate affects the NMDA receptor - not just in
alzheimers though (this article pertains to glutamate blocking drugs for
alzheimers)but the principle is the same in many disease states.

These articles will let you know how it affects different body states
